I'm just gonna say, he's the weird one. 
Being raised in a society of children by a giant talking tree one rarely ever sees isn't really an ideal childhood.  He's very socially awkward and is entirely oblivious of the fact.  I mean, can there really be something wrong with sneaking past guards and breaking into a castle to talk to the royal princess??  Or breaking pots!  They're right there, aren't they?  Got an annoying Daku princess?  Just stick her in a bottle!  It's easier to carry than up on top of your head, and makes her shut up!
